Competition Rules

Official 8v8 tournament rules

The team representative must review these rules with every registered player before submitting the roster.

Team & eligibility

  • Matches are 8v8, including the goalkeeper.
  • Only players listed on the approved 14-player roster may participate, and a player may represent only one team.
  • Players born in 1991—including through December 31, 1991—or earlier are eligible.
  • Every player must bring valid government-issued photo identification and complete any organizer check-in before taking the field. An ineligible or unregistered player may result in forfeiture and further discipline.

Match duration

  • Group-stage and quarter-final matches: two 20-minute halves.
  • Semi-final and final: two 30-minute halves.
  • Halftime is 10 minutes for every match, subject to schedule adjustments announced by the organizer.
  • Group-stage draws stand. Knockout draws go directly to penalties with no extra time.

Restarts, equipment & play

  • There are no throw-ins. A kick-in is used from the touchline, with opponents at least five yards away.
  • No slide tackles are permitted. A goalkeeper may dive within the penalty area to play the ball but may not make a dangerous feet-first sliding challenge.
  • No offside will be called unless the organizer issues a written amendment before the tournament.
  • Rolling substitutions are allowed during a stoppage with the referee’s permission and must occur from the team area.
  • Teams must wear matching jerseys with visible numbers. Shin guards and other required basic safety equipment are mandatory.

Discipline & conduct

  • Two yellow cards in the same match equal a red card and ejection.
  • A straight red card or red card from a second yellow carries ejection and an automatic suspension for the next match. The organizer may impose a longer suspension.
  • Fighting, threats, violent conduct or abuse toward players, officials, volunteers or spectators may result in immediate ejection, suspension or removal from the tournament.
  • Teams are responsible for the conduct of their players, staff and supporters.

Standings & penalties

  • Group points: three for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss.
  • Ties in standings are ranked by points, goal difference, goals scored, fair-play record and, if still tied, a draw conducted by the organizer.
  • Knockout penalty shootouts begin with five kicks per team, followed by sudden death if still tied.
  • Only eligible players on the field or roster, as directed by the referee, may take part in the shootout.

Check-in, officials & responsibility

  • Each team must check in at least 45 minutes before its first match and report to the assigned field before every scheduled kickoff.
  • The referee controls the match; only the captain may respectfully request clarification, and all on-field decisions are final.
  • The organizer’s decisions on eligibility, scheduling, discipline, protests, weather and competition administration are final.
  • Players must bring their own water, and every team must leave its bench and spectator area clean before departing.

Waiver & Consent

Representative acknowledgment

This is a team-level acknowledgment. For stronger legal protection, obtain an individual signed waiver from every adult player.

Assumption of Risk, Release, Media Consent and Conduct Agreement

Soccer and related tournament activities involve risks including collision, falls, physical contact, sprains, fractures, concussion, illness, heat exposure, weather conditions, serious injury, disability, death and other foreseeable or unforeseen circumstances. The team representative acknowledges these risks and confirms that each listed participant is voluntarily participating and is responsible for determining whether they are physically fit and medically able to play.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the representative, for the team and only to the extent legally authorized by each participant, releases and holds harmless Himalaya Baltimore FC, its officers, directors, volunteers, referees, organizers, sponsors, venue owners and agents (“Released Parties”) from claims arising from ordinary negligence connected with tournament participation. This release does not apply where prohibited by law, including gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

The representative authorizes tournament personnel to seek reasonable emergency medical assistance when a participant cannot provide consent and acknowledges that the participant is responsible for related medical expenses. The Released Parties are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property. The representative also confirms that the tournament rules and conduct requirements have been shared with the full team.

Registration is submitted securely after the representative reviews the complete roster, rules and waiver acknowledgment.
